Indus Foods was founded in 1962, by the parents of main directors and shareholders. Having seen the gap in the market for ethnic foods, the first halal butchers and greengrocers was opened on Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook, this being inside the famous “Balti Triangle”.
Following growing demand for spicy foods and associated ingredients, the wholesale business Indus Foods was formed in 1972. This business now serves a far-reaching distribution hub not limited to the Midlands.
According to the Institute of Export, in 2018 there was a 12% increase in the amount of spices being transported from India to the UK, this was predicted to rise in 2019, with the most popular cuisines being from Sri Lanka and Burmese, which both heavily use spices. Following distinct market opportunities, the Company is at the forefront of driving growth within the Independent Wholesale sector.
The loan will enable the business to refurbish and revamp their manufacturing units, extending their premises to allow for efficiencies in stocking holding, whilst creating a minimum of 4 jobs in the region.
