About The Fund

NPIF Maven Equity Finance invests in ambitious SMEs across the North of England to help them fulfil their growth potential, providing financial, strategic and operational input as required.

Why Equity Finance?

Equity Finance is widely accepted as an important ingredient in supporting the growth of innovative and ambitious businesses in a variety of funding scenarios. Combined with the strategic and operational support Maven's experienced investment team can provide, then NPIF investment could be right for you.

NPIF Maven Equity Finance is available to make minority stake equity investments of £50,000 to £2m in each SME. The fund is not able to finance acquisitions, though an element of replacement capital is available if sought in conjunction with growth capital.

The finance available can help with the following:

  • Funding expansion projects
  • Leasing new commercial premises
  • Making asset acquisitions
  • Hiring a new team
  • Purchasing new machinery or equipment
  • Exporting abroad
  • Filling gaps in working capital

The Region Covered

The fund primarily invests in businesses across the North West, covering Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria, but also supports investment across Yorkshire & Humber and the Tees Valley. Merseyside is covered by our partner manager MSIF.

Map Of Offices

Eligibility:

Eligible investments would be businesses which:

  • Must have, or intend to have, a material part of their operations, staffing or trading based in the North West, Yorkshire & Humber and the Tees Valley
  • Will be required to meet a number of funding criteria, including in terms of employee headcount and turnover
  • Have fewer than 250 full-time equivalent employees
  • Have turnover of less than £42m per annum

In order to fully appraise a funding application Maven would expect to receive a detailed investment proposal covering the application requirements noted below.

Restricted Sectors:

Business funding is available for both start-ups and established companies and is not targeting any specific sectors, though there are certain restrictions which prohibit funding in sectors including pure real estate development activity, gambling related services & equipment and a variety of other specific exclusions.

Market Overview

A description of the market in which you operate, its general characteristics and where your company is positioning itself.

Financial Forecast

Current and historic accounts, current financial position of your company and financial projections based on receiving funding for your growth plan.

Your Team

Biographies of the key people involved in the business, demonstrating senior team experience and expertise in a specific field.

Exit Strategy

A description of your exit strategy post investment, including potential acquirers, IPO opportunities or other strategies.
